Furniture Finishing Supplies

The dog days of finishing are over. Take advantage of some great products to make your lives easier.
Don’t work like a dog sanding anymore! Use softback sanding sponges! They fit on standard palm sanders, are very flexible, easy to clean (rinse with water), and last a LONG time and work great for buffing between coats of finish and are available in 4 different grades – fine enough to rub out finishes! Our favorite is the SUPERFINE grade.
Handi Painter paint pads are THE BEST applicators for large surfaces, way better than foam brushes!
Use foam brushes for small surfaces and corners.
Prepare raw wood surfaces using fine grit sandpaper such as #180-#220.  Use #320 for sanding in between coats.  For more information on sanding, see our sanding tutorial.

Fill Sticks

There has never been an easier, more convenient, or less expensive way to fill and hide nicks, gouges, and scratches on any shade of interior furniture and woodwork. These wax fill sticks of carefully selected wood tones that blend together for a near perfect match every time.  Begin by rubbing across the damage with a lighter colored stick, changing to the darker and reddish sticks as you go. As the sticks fill in the scratch, the colors blend to match the wood shade. If you make a blending mistake, it's simple to remove the wax and try again. Use a scraper to remove any excess, and buff with a soft cloth.  Use a protection coat of Topcoat over the filled area.  It's that easy! The hard wax sticks in place for a long-lasting, professional looking repair, and eliminates the need for expensive refinishing. Plus, you can use the same kit over and over again to match most any popular furniture shade.

Available in Antique Cherry, Black, Brown Mahogany, Candlelight, Oak, Honey Maple, Mahogany, Pine, Rosewood, Shaker Maple, Walnut and White.

Touch Up Markers

General Finishes Touch Up Markers contain the famous oil-based stain that has been making wood beautiful for over 90 years. Touch-Up Markers cover surface scratches, watermarks, worn edges, and other imperfections on all types of furniture and woodwork.  Great for touchups and repair of furniture, cabinets, doors and floors, General Finishes Touch Up Markers are also a fast, convenient, no-mess way to stain small hobby and woodcraft projects. Try them also for detailing or other decorative techniques. Each application darkens as it's repeated, and the marker colors can be intermixed - so it's easy to match almost any shade of wood. The dye dries in seconds to create a long-lasting repair that can be waxed or polished.  The marker itself is unique. Unlike ordinary markers, a special valve mechanism feeds dye to the marker tip only as needed, allowing control of the flow. The valve also seals off the reservoir in the barrel and prevents the marker from drying out.

Available in Antique Cherry, Black, Brown Mahogany, Candlelight, Oak, Honey Maple, Mahogany, Pine, Rosewood, Shaker Maple, Walnut and White.
