Coffee Table Gets Classy with General Finishes Java Gel Stain
We love the look of this coffee table done by Joe Stromski. He took General Finishes Java Gel Stain and used a sprayer to apply the finish. He also used Enduro Pre-Cat to seal in that great color. Joe is a local Wisconsite and we're so proud of his finished product! Thanks for sharing Joe!
What is the best clear finish to bring out the natural color and characteristics of the wood grain?
Oil and water based finishes do not mimic one another regarding highlighting the figure of the wood. Oil based products will generally achieve more color and definition. However, you can use certain products together to achieve your objective by using oils for color followed by water base finishes for clarity.

Spray Your Finishes for Faster Production Time!

How black is General Finishes Corporation's Lamp Black Milk Paint?
Well it is BLACK, not grey, not charcoal, just black. On a history note, Lamp black was traditionally produced by collecting soot, also known as lampblack, from oil lamps. Thank goodness you don't have to do that anymore, just pour General Finishes Lamp Black Milk Paint from the can!
Do I need to use a top coat or wax with General Finishes Milk Paint?
The answer is no, General Finishes Milk Paint does not require sealing, especially for lower use pieces such as a coffee table. General Finishes Milk Paint is a high tech mineral based paint created using modern technology. We recommend a top coat if you want to increase the sheen or for more durability in high traffic areas such as a table top or kitchen cabinets. Waxes are optional, and are usually used for style and design purposes. General Finishes prefers top coats over waxes for durability and performance reasons.

2014 National Hardwood Flooring Conference
The National Hardwood Flooring Conference was held in Nashville, TN this year. General Finishes was there to show off their new water based Pro Floor Stain. With this product you can stain and seal in one day, as it has a 3-5 hour drying time in between coats. How great is that!? It also has no strong vapors, no combustion concerns and since it's waterbased, clean up is easy. Pro Floor Finishes are also available through trained flooring professionals.
Do Glaze Effects Require a Top Coat?
Refinishing Furniture in the Winter. How Cold is Too Cold?
Refinishing furniture in a space that is below or above the 65*-75* F range can lead to problems, and a space below 55* F is definitely too cold. One issue caused by cold temperatures is the development of dimples in the finish called "Orange Peel".
The colder your space it is, the longer you have to wait between coats. Cold temperatures slow the dry time and affect how quickly the finish will level and harden. Our easy rule of thumb is; if it's cold enough to wear a sweater it's too cold to apply a water based finish.
Do Gel Stains Need A Top Coat?
