The train painting is the first of many projects that are planned for a yearlong temporary art initiative along 20 blocks of Fond du Lac Ave.
With buckets of bright-colored paint and wide paintbrushes, dozens of volunteers took to the street Sunday and created a work of art out of an otherwise dark city intersection below a wide and low railroad viaduct.
Called "A Common Denominator," the graphic painting, made by local artists, neighbors and inmates, among others, brings a cheery choo-choo train to the corner of W. Fond du Lac Ave. and W. Locust St.
The making of the artwork begins a yearlong temporary public art initiative along 20 blocks of Fond du Lac Ave., between N. 17th and 37th streets, that will feature the work of nine artists. It is also the first public artwork by one of Milwaukee's more widely known artists, Reginald Baylor.
