How Do I Treat Steam or Water Spots on my Refinished Furniture?

We all know that steam spots can come as the result of hosting holiday celebrations! But how does GF recommend dealing with the mark?

Customer's Question:
"I need to refinish the top of my dining room table (antique mahogany) because of steam spots left from Thanksgiving last year. I really don't want to refinish the whole table if I can help it. I have never used the Java Gel so I don't even know if it would be what I need. I figure I will need to remove the finish that is on the table now before applying it. Can you give me any guidance on this?"

Answer:
If you see a white ring, Liberon White Ring Remover can correct or soften the problem area. This product, sold at Woodcraft and Rockler stores, could be a great solution to try before refinishing the table entirely.

In an instance where the finish appears to be gone and only a white ring remains, GF recommends that you test a dark stain to see if it will match your current finish and cover the spot. Unfortunately, the best result will most likely come from sanding or stripping the table's current finish and starting over!
